This has been a GREAT growing season for many of the Local Farmers in and around Cannon County. Saturday, August 22, 2009, was another great day at the Cannon County Farmers Market, located around the Courthouse Square. There was plenty to choose from with 19 Farmers present. The weather has been beautiful every Saturday the Farmers Market has been opened and the selections of produce has been outstanding.

You can find, Sweet Corn, Field Corn, Field Peas, Lima Beans, Summer and Winter Squash, Watermelon, Apples, Cucumbers, Bell Peppers and Hot Peppers, Cabbage, Eggplant, Green Beans, Pole Beans, Pimento Peppers, Potatoes, Tomatoes, Okra, Herbs, Baked Goods and more.

What's THAT? Have you tried Erdmann Farms "Zepher" summer squash? A hybrid of zucchini and yellow straightneck squash, very tasty, slightly sweet with a little nutty flavor. Can be prepared like all other summer squash and especially delicious eating raw on salads or with a dip sauce.

Find tasty peppers on the Flying S Farms table. This picture is of the Mariaci Peppers they grow. It described as a delicious, mildly hot, fleshy pepper, they have a gourmet flavor with fruity overtones and does well in cooking, grilling, pickling and salads.

The Cannon County Farmers Market is the place to start your Saturday morning! There is rumor they will be "Bluegrass Music" this next Saturday.

See you there!
